Four Irish athletes are on the start list in Melbourne this weekend for the Maurie Plant Meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.

With Australia sitting roughly twelve to thirteen hours ahead of Ireland, this one takes place early this morning Irish time.

🇮🇪 Who’s In Action?

Benjamin Richardson is first up for Ireland this weekend. The sprinter previously represented South Africa at the 2024 Paris Olympics but has since switched allegiance to Ireland, his country of birth, with the change confirmed at the end of October. He is set to compete in the 200 metres.

Sophie O’Sullivan features in the women’s 1500 metres. Based in Australia, she has not followed the traditional indoor route this winter and instead comes into this race off outdoor preparation.

Laura Nicholson also contests the women’s 1500 metres and is further along in her season, having already raced outdoors. She brings strong early season form, including a win on the track in January in New Zealand and on the road in Japan two weeks ago.

Brian Fay is entered in the men’s 3000 metres. He has already been in action outdoors this year and comes off a consistent run of performances, including indoor races in Boston and a respectable finish at the World Cross Country Championships.
