Wins For Lyons, O’Mahony And Cremin Cap Busy Weekend For Irish NCAA Athletes

The NCAA outdoor season continues to build momentum across the United States, with Irish athletes once again scattered across a packed schedule of meets. From California to Florida, the latest round of competition brought a mix of personal bests, podium finishes, and solid depth across a wide range of events, as athletes continue to sharpen form in the early stages of the campaign.

O’Connor Battles Through Combined Events In California
At the Mt. SAC Relays Combined Events, Diarmuid O’Connor of the University of Connecticut put together a strong all-round decathlon performance to finish tenth overall with 7,578 points. His best work came in the throws and late stages, including second place in the shot put with 14.64m and another second place finish in the 1500m in 4:23.42, underlining his ability to close out the competition strongly.

Wins And Podiums At Wake Forest Invitational
The Wake Forest Invitational saw a mix of distance and middle distance performances from Irish athletes. Nathan Cremin of Montreat College delivered one of the standout results, taking victory in the 800m in 1:46.45, a notable performance that set the tone for the meet. In the same event, Conall Rogers of Northeastern University finished fifth in 1:51.35. Over longer distances, Heather Murphy of Montreat College placed eighth in the 5000m in 16:25.12, while Emer McGlynn of Catawba College finished ninth in the 1500m in 4:45.89.

Huge Fields Tested Irish Depth At Bryan Clay Invitational
The Bryan Clay Invitational once again provided a deep and competitive environment, with large fields across all distance events. Mark Milner of the University of Portland ran 3:41.40 to place eighteenth in the 1500m, while Ronan McMahon-Staggs of Dublin City Harriers impressed with 3:39.32 to finish fifteenth. In the women’s 1500m, Eimear McCarroll of Bradley University clocked 4:25.20, with Claire Crowley of Boston College running 4:29.53 and Sarah Hosey of the University of Tulsa finishing in 4:29.01. Susie Nestor of Rice University doubled up, running 2:14.04 in the 800m and 4:36.14 in the 1500m. Over 5000m, Roisin Treacy of Loyola University Chicago placed twenty second in 16:43.54, while in the 10000m, Dean Casey of the University of Colorado ran 28:30.16 to finish eleventh, with Claragh Keane of Adams State University sixteenth in 34:57.95.

Relay Success And Sprint Performances Across Meets
At the Joe Gillespie Invitational, Lauren Roy of Tarleton State University played her part as her team secured victory in the 4x100m relay in 43.70. Over at the Paul Donahue Invite, David Davitt of the University of Pennsylvania produced a strong run to finish second in the 400m in a personal best of 47.14.

Formidable Irish Presence At Tom Jones Memorial Invitational
At the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, Conor Kelly of the University of Texas placed forty fourth in the 200m in 22.02 before returning for the 400m, where he finished forty fifth in 48.69. In the field, Daire Mahon of Harvard University cleared 1.96m in the high jump to place sixteenth. Sprinting duties also saw Israel Olatunde, competing unattached while based in the United States, finish seventh in the 100m in 10.41.

Ezeonu Impresses In Oregon
The Oregon Team Invitational saw a strong sprint double from James Ezeonu of Kansas State University, who placed third in both the 100m in 10.93 and the 200m in 22.15, showing consistency across both events.

Irish Representation At Mt. SAC Relays Main Programme
In the main Mt. SAC Relays programme, Victoria Amiadamen of Texas State University competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing sixteenth in 59.79, before contributing to her team’s eighth place finish in the 4x400m relay in 3:43.58. Elsewhere, Aoife Hernon of UC Irvine ran 53.88 to place ninth in the 400m.

Wins For Lyons And O’Mahony At Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational
At the Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational, Irish athletes claimed two victories. Liam Lyons of Holy Cross took control of the 1500m to win in 3:44.21, while Niamh O’Mahony of Providence College secured top spot in the 5000m in 17:07.17, rounding off a strong week of results across the NCAA circuit.

With early season meets continuing to stack up, the consistency across events and disciplines will be just as encouraging as the headline performances.
