Tokyo Schedule: Sat 13 September 2.55am

TOKYO UPDATE

Eric Favours finished 17th in the Group A of the shot putt qualification rounds. The Raheny Shamrocks athlete was somewhat below his best as he attempted to make the world championship final to be held later in the evening. Favors finished 28th overall and 17th in his group. A first round throw of 19.17m was followed by a slightly better throw of 19.19m in the second round and a foul for the third. In a post event interview Favours was clearly not happy with his competition and stated he was "really upset with how it went". This was despite doing things differently this year, pushing back his build up. And he was going on the right trajectory with incremental improvements over the final few competitions in the build up to Tokyo. Group A was won by American Adrian Piperi with his team mate Ryan Crouser in second. Tom Walsh (New Zealand) topped Group B with a throw of 21.74m, the furthest distance of the entire competition.

Competing since High School, he has qualified for two NCAA championships (although he did not start in one due to injury).
