Athletics Ireland has confirmed the squad that will represent the Republic at this year’s Anglo Celtic Plate 100 km race on Saturday, 21 March at the University of Limerick. The event doubles as the Athletics Ireland 100 km National Championships and now includes a new 50 km race alongside the traditional 100 km open event.

The Anglo Celtic Plate is one of the flagship home countries 100 km road competitions. Founded in the 1990s to give runners in the British Isles an international team fixture at the ultra distance, it has acted as a stepping stone for athletes aiming at European and world level competition. It brings together teams from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales in a rare opportunity to race on behalf of the national colours over the classic ultra-distance.

Ireland’s Squad

Women’s team

  • Patricia McLoughlin (Le Chéile AC)
  • Sinéad Egan (Galway City Harriers)
  • Julie McNamee (Tír Chonaill AC)

Men’s team

  • Ciarán McGonagle (Letterkenny AC)
  • Rob Kelly (Raheny AC)
  • Matthew Collins (Portmarnock AC)
  • Terry Shanley (Clane AC)
  • Barry McCarroll (Slieve Gullion Runners)
  • Seán Meehan (Cherry Orchard AC)

Behind the scenes, team lead John O’Regan (Le Chéile AC) will guide the crew, supported by physical therapist and crew lead Louis Byrne (Glendalough AC). Race director Anthony Lee (Donadea RC) will also play an integral role in the team’s logistics on race day.
