Sarah Lavin heads to the World Indoor Championships in Toruń as one of the most experienced members of the Irish squad.
The Emerald AC hurdler has been a central figure in Irish sprint hurdling scene for more than a decade, representing Ireland at major championships including the Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships.
Born in Limerick, Lavin built her reputation steadily through the Irish system, first winning international honours with a silver medal at the European U20 Championships in 2013 before progressing to the senior ranks.
Her consistency at the top level has made her one of Ireland’s most reliable championship performers. She finished fifth at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and has also reached finals at European and global events over the years.
The 2026 indoor season has again shown that the veteran hurdler remains in strong form. Lavin achieved the World Indoor qualifying standard in Paris on Saturday January 25th, finishing second in the 60m hurdles event at the Meeting De Paris in 7.98 seconds.
She followed that up by winning her eighth national indoor 60m hurdles title at the Irish Indoor Championships, confirming her place on the Irish team heading to Poland.
With a national record, multiple major championship finals and years of experience at the highest level, Lavin arrives in Toruń once again aiming to challenge the world’s best over the hurdles.
