2027 London Marathon Ballot Details Revealed

The 2026 London Marathon has not even taken place but the details for the 2027 edition ballot have been already confirmed, and there’s already a major twist being discussed that could reshape the event entirely. There is a potential shift to a two-day format, organizers are aiming to host a world-record 100,000 runners across one weekend (more on that in a minute)

Below are all the details:

Entry Fees for 2027

  • Standard UK Entry: £79.99 (for those who do not choose the "double your chances" donation).
  • International Entry: £225.00 (this includes a mandatory carbon offset fee to mitigate the impact of international travel).

The Ballot Timeline

The ballot operates as a random draw. Mark these dates in your calendar to ensure you don’t miss the window:

  • Opens: 09:00 (BST) on Friday 24 April 2026
  • Closes: 16:00 (BST) on Friday 1 May 2026
  • Results: Announced via email by early July 2026

Two-Day Marathon Under Consideration

Organisers have confirmed that they are actively exploring a one-off two-day format for the 2027 race.

If approved, the event would take place across Saturday April 25th and Sunday April 26th, potentially allowing up to 100,000 runners to participate across the weekend.

At this stage, the proposal has not yet been finalised, but it represents a significant shift in how the event could operate.

The "Double Your Chances" Option

When you enter the ballot, you can choose to donate your entry fee upfront. This is a strategic move that offers several advantages:

  • A Second Chance: If you aren't successful in the main ballot, you are automatically entered into a second draw, giving you at least double the chance of securing a spot.
  • Reduced Fee: If you are successful through this route, your entry fee is reduced from the standard £79.99 down to £49.99.
  • The Thank You Gift: If you are unsuccessful in both draws, you will receive a free premium hydration vest (worth over £100).
  • Support the Cause: Your donated fee supports the London Marathon Foundation, which funds physical activity initiatives across the UK.

What Happens After You Apply?

  1. Confirmation: You will receive an immediate confirmation email. If you donated your fee, you’ll also get a payment receipt. (Check your junk folder if these don't appear quickly).
  2. The Wait: Results are strictly under wraps until the announcement in early July 2026.
  3. Next Steps: If successful, your place is fully prepaid (if you donated) or you will be prompted to pay the standard fee to confirm your spot.

What Happens After You Apply

All applicants will receive a confirmation email once their ballot entry has been submitted. Those who opt into the donation scheme will also receive a payment receipt.

Due to the volume of entries, organisers have advised runners to allow time for confirmation emails to arrive and to check junk folders if necessary.

Results will then be issued by early July, bringing the usual mix of celebration and rejection emails that has become part of the London Marathon experience.
