Dublin City Half Marathon Sells All Entries In Under Two Hours

The new Dublin City Marathon 2025 proved popular among runners across the country, who snapped up all entries in a matter of hours. The event which was announced last month will take place on March 30th. Runners will start on the capital's O'Connell Street before heading through Ballybough, Whitehall, Killester, Howth Road, Raheny, St Anne's Park, Clontarf, Fairview Park and Seville Place.

Organisers said at the time of the announcement that “Our current half marathon consistently sells out weeks in advance, and we recognise the increasing demand for another high-quality half marathon in Dublin." The event is separate from the half marathon which takes place in the Phoenix Park as part of the Dublin Race Series.

However, they may not have expected the new event to sell out in a matter of hours. Tickets went on sale today at 12 pm and were all but gone by around 2 pm. A post on the events Instagram page stated:

"The new Dublin City Half Marathon sold out on day one of the entries. Runners will still have an opportunity to secure places via transfer of places. The transfer window will open from February 21st to March 9th."

Jim Aughney, the Race Director of the Dublin City Half Marathon, said: “We knew there was a demand for another high-quality half marathon in Dublin, and today has shown that to be true as we sold out 12,500 places in a couple of hours.”

The difficulties in registering were echoed on social media by many who said they were removed from the online queue or that the booking website crashed.

He added: “We are aware too that given the high demand, some users experienced difficulties with registration. We will review this fully and consider options for 2026 entries”
